Prior to August 1985, the work of sanctioning pension benefits to Government servants in Uttar Pradesh was done by Accountant General, U.P. In view of unnecessary delays in sanctioning pensions and other difficulties, the Uttar Pradesh Government vide a GO dated 06-08-1985, initially decided to get this work done by Chief Accounts Officers working under the heads of departments of four departments. As a result of success in this work, it was decided to get this work done by Chief Accounts Officers working under the heads of many more departments. In continuation with this, on 31-10-1986, orders of payment related to pension/gratuity/commutation of retired employees were provided through the Secretariat Administration (Pension Cell). Vide the GO No Sa-3-1884/10-86 dated 03 October 1986 of Finance (General) Section-3 the Secretariat Administration (Pension Cell) was constituted.
